Hair Replacement Questions Indianapolis

While the vast majority of people are likely candidates for hair replacement, there is a small number who are not. To determine if you are a viable candidate for a hair transplant we provide both phone and office consultations. We conduct our office consultations at your choice of our north or south side Indianapolis, Indiana offices.

How much will it cost?

If it is determined that a hair transplant would be beneficial in addressing your hair loss, then at the time of your office visit we determine the number of grafts, and surgical procedures, and address any other issues. Costs are also discussed at this time. Typically, the higher number of grafts needed, the higher the cost. Common hair transplant cost ranges between $3,000 and $8,000. However, financing is available to make this confidence-building procedure affordable to almost anyone.

Will I need more than one transplant?

Depending on the extent of your hair loss and your goals, more than one transplant session in Indianapolis may be recommended. This reduces the duration of the procedure and your initial costs. It also gives you time to decide if you’d like to have more hair transplanted after seeing the results of your initial session. As a result of this multi-session approach, the return of your hair is seen by others as more gradual, and therefore more natural.

Will the hair that’s transplanted be permanent?

Generally, the hair that has just been transplanted will fall out after some time. However, the hair-producing follicle will survive. It will begin to grow permanent new hair within 3 – 4 months after the hair transplant procedure and the number of new hairs will continue to increase for the next 6 – 9 months with a proper hair hygiene program.

Where is the procedure performed?

This lessens your travel time to consultation, surgery, and follow-up appointments as well as any missed time from your normal daily activities. So our entire process, including any follow-up visits is more convenient.

What is Follicular Unit Extraction?

Most hair transplant patients have their grafts removed in a strip from the donor area in the back of the head. This has the advantages of higher yield and an easily covered recipient area post-procedure. It does leave a fine line scar which for most patients is easily covered by their hair. For patients who wear their hair very short, however, this can be an issue.
With follicular unit extraction (FUE) there is no linear scar. Instead, the grafts are removed individually with a small round device. This requires a great deal of precision and expertise. In addition, it also requires a longer procedure and shaving of the posterior donor area. Long term, however, it is difficult to detect any evidence of the procedure. For those who wear their hair extremely short FUE is a great option for obtaining a great result without any resulting visible scar.

What is Light Therapy?

One new area in the hair restoration field is lower-level light therapy (LLLT). This technology is based on the ability of the wavelengths at the right settings to stimulate hair growth. This technology has proven especially effective in diffusing female pattern hair loss. While this is a new technology that is still being fully understood, patients can see a significant benefit over time.
At Follicles in Indianapolis, we utilize the LaserCap system. This device can be easily worn at home for the prescribed period with little interference to everyday activities. Treatments are safe and painless. Over a period of weeks to months, patients will note increased hair thickness and growth.
